Solar Bus Shelter

WITH OUR ENVIRONMENT UNDER THE STRESS OF THE GREEN HOUSE GASSES PUMPED INTO IT, SOON WE WILL HAVE TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES (AS WE HAVE SEEN WITH EVENTS LIKE JAPAN’S TSUNAMI). ACCORDING TO U.S ENERGY ADMINISTRATION ABOUT 37 PERCENT OF THE GREENHOUSE GASES THAT ARE PUSHED INTO THE ENVIRONMENT IS FROM THE PRODUCTION OF ELECTRICITY, AND WITH ONLY A SMALL PERCENT OF OUR ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION COMING FROM CLEAN SOURCES WE ARE HEADING STRAIGHT INTO DISASTER. BUT HOW CAN WE CHANGE THAT?

ONE WAY IS TO FIND WAYS TO BETTER UTILIZE OUR UNDERUTILIZED INFRASTRUCTURE, SUCH AS BUS SHELTERS. FOR INSTANCE THERE ARE OVER 2000 BUS SHELTERS IN THE CITY OF LONG BEACH IN CALIFORNIA THAT SIT IN THE SUN LIGHT WITH THE SOLE PURPOSE OF SHELTER FOR BUS PATRONS. WHAT IF IT COULD GENERATE POWER WHILE SITTING IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT ALL DAY?

THE PROPOSED SOLAR BUS SHELTER IS DESIGNED TO HELP SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT BY HARNESSING THE POWER OF THE SUN DURING THE DAY TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY. EACH BUS STOP IS CAPABLE OF GENERATING 66 KWH OF ELECTRICITY PER DAY ( AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD CONSUMES 573 KWH PER MONTH ). NOT ONLY DEPLOYMENT OF THESE SHELTERS CAN HELP US REDUCE OUR DEPENDENCY ON FOSSIL FUELS, BUT IT CAN ALSO HELP LOWER THE COSTS OF GENERATING ELECTRICITY AND REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF GREENHOUSE GASES WE PUMP INTO OUR ATMOSPHERE. THIS SHELTER ALSO OFFERS SERVICES SUCH AS CHARGING STATIONS FOR ELECTRONIC PERIPHERALS, ALL NIGHT LED LIGHTING, HEATED SEATS AND 911 EMERGENCY CALL SYSTEM.
